Extremely important to also book alternative accommodation if you plan on arriving prior to when your booked accommodation is available. The last thing you want is to arrive without a place to stay.
You are getting very close to joining us at CELUSA/SAIBT, but there are still a couple of things you will need to organise! We have outlined the steps to follow so you can organise and prioritise your pre-departure plans.
Extremely important to also book alternative accommodation if you plan on arriving prior to when your booked accommodation is available. The last thing you want is to arrive without a place to stay.
You can apply directly online or with help from a local representative. Please visit immi.homeaffairs.gov.au for more information about student visas.
On a student visa, the Australian Government requires you to hold Overseas Student Health Cover for the duration of your student visa. OSHC will pay for medical and hospital care, for some prescription drugs and emergency ambulance transport. It does not cover any illness or disability you had prior to arriving to Australia and it does not cover dental, optical or other ancillary services. Remember to bring your medical and optical prescriptions with you.
These include:
CELUSA/SAIBT Letter of Offer
Letter of Acceptance(CoEs)
Proof of Funds
Temporary Resident Visa (If required)
Certified copies of your academic transcripts (including evidence of your English language proficiency), if you have not already provided these documents
Passport
Evidence of guardianship is required for students under 18. For example, Confirmation of Appropriate Accommodation and Welfare (CAAW).
Personal identification (e.g. birth certificate, etc)
Driver’s licence: check that it is current for the period you will be in Australia and renew your licence if necessary. If your home licence is not in English, you should bring a certified translation with the licence
Any medical or optical prescriptions/certificates, immunisation records
References from previous employers
Receipts for valuable new goods that you are bringing with you to Australia
Contact telephone numbers for family and friends
The currency in Australia is Australian Dollars (AUD$). You will be able to exchange most major currencies at airports, banks and large shopping centres.
Credit Card and approximately $800 cash on-hand
International pre-paid phone card
Pictures of family and friends
Document folder – to secure your important documents
Clothing – dress codes in Australia are generally casual, with most students preferring comfortable, casual clothes such as jeans, shirts, etc. Bring some jumpers/pullovers/sweaters and jackets for winter and one or two outfits for formal occasions
Adaptor plugs – Australia has 240 volts, AC 50Hz cycle. The Australian three pin outlet is different from most countries, so you may need to purchase an adaptor plug for electrical appliances. Adaptor plugs are readily available at travel or electrical stores throughout Australia
Electrical equipment – you may consider bringing electrical appliances such as rice cooker, stereo equipment and hair dryer
Personal items – basic toiletries (e.g. toothbrush), dictionary, alarm clock, etc
Optical spares – a spare pair of spectacles or contact lenses if you wear them, as these may be expensive to replace in Australia
Basic household items – most accommodation will not include cooking
Utensils, bed linen, blankets, pillows or towels. Most of these items can be purchased in Australia
Medication – If you take medication for an illness or condition, you may need to bring a supply with you as it may not be readily available, or available at the same price in Australia. You may need a certificate (in English or translated into English) from your doctor stating that the medication has been prescribed. Check with Immigration authorities; you must declare any drugs or medicines you bring into Australia
Check the maximum amount of kilograms that you are allowed to carry on the airline. Check the quarantine and customs regulations to be aware of what you cannot bring into Australia with you. Further information about Australian customs and quarantine can be found at: http://www.australia.gov.au/information-and-services/passports-and-travel/customs-and-quarantine
Please activate your account and register so you are fully prepared to enrol in classes when registration opens
